January/February 2014 Featured Artist: Rose Pearson

Rose works from her studio, which is nestled in the woods, in the Haliburton Highlands. She has formal education in drawing and painting, graduating on the Dean’s Honour Roll from York University, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.  She also has a Bachelor of Education and has been a teacher of all ages in both the public school system and privately.  In the studio, she paints with acrylics and oils and also mentors other painters.  She is also employed by Fleming College, teaching courses for the Haliburton School of The Arts.

“Vestiges”, on displayed at Baked & Battered, is Rose’s most recent work and has been prompted by an end, and therefore also a beginning, in her life.   She is intrigued by the idea of archaeological digs and likens her creative process to such an idea:  images are unearthed and stories can be constructed.  A dove with a branch is in many of these works.  So are the letters “Q” and “U” – they are love letters.

I have found much richness in this T.S. Elliot quote and so I shall also share it with you:

“So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.”
