In the Summer of 2012, the idea for Baked & Battered first came to us on the deck of our lakeside cottage, where we’d spent many weekends over the years watching the seasons come and go around our lake – our reprieve from hectic careers in the healthcare and human services fields in Southern Ontario. The idea bloomed as we scouted Haliburton for the perfect location, and pondered the possibility of capturing that same relaxed, rustic feeling of our cottage weekends in a bakery/café and fish fry that could also live up to our high standards for high quality food and customer service… After a year of planning and months of renovations, recipe development, and the search for the perfect baker (enter Deborah Molokach, our head baker, who has taught us the value of handcrafting baked goods with high-quality, organic ingredients!), we stood in the centre of our new shop, Baked & Battered: Cottage Bakery and Fish Fry. Since then, we’ve enjoyed connecting with our customers, chatting with old and new friends over good coffee, and offering our customers the very best baked goods and fish & chips that we can in a relaxed, fun, and funky cottage atmosphere. We’ve been humbled by everyone’s support, and love it when we and our staff get to know our customers by name.
